Well Monday was just a great p-day! We got to go help a former investigator named Brian move all this old wood from a garage he tore apart and that's always fun! Just a couple of guys chucking big pieces of wood y'know? :) We were able to see James again that evening and help him install a new satellite antenna thing in his house and that was kinda fun as well! Hahaha James is just one of the funniest people I've met! Tuesday we went on exchanges with our Oskaloosa zone leaders! Elder Sites and I came to Indianola while Elders Homer and Wardell took off to Oskaloosa. We did some finding and as we were walking along we randomly see this older guy riding this HUGE 3-wheeler bike going along the bike trail! We talked to him for like 40 minutes! His name is Mike and he was super cool and we set up an appointment for Friday evening! Later, we see this older couple pulling some weeds in their garden so of course we start talking to them. They were super nice and we asked if they wanted any help and they said, "Well sure!" So we zoomed back home, changed, and then zipped on back to pull some weeds with strangers! We pulled weeds with them and talked for about an hour and a half or so and they were very open and willing for us to come back and talk to them some more! Fingers crossed! After that, we changed again and did some more finding then took dinner. I love Elder Sites he is hilarious! We had such a blast! The next day, we went back to Knoxville to swap back and we all ended up having lunch at the Knoxville elder's apartment, a GIGANTIC plate of enchiladas some member had given them, and it was like a feast! :D Random story for the week: Elder Sites and I went to go contact a former investigator named Jody and we saw her outside her house so we went to go talk to her. When we mentioned how we believe in modern prophets she said, "Oh yes! I have a personal prophet I write to all the time! And they always write back and give me insights and personal council all the time!" In my head I was thinking, "Alright........cool?" I don't know it was kinda interesting. Gotta love that mission life! :)
After district meeting in Centerville on Thursday, we came back to our appointment with Mike and that was interesting. Basically, he just talked and talked and talked about his former job as a grocery sales representative and whenever we tried to bring up the gospel, he'd shut us down. By the way, he does NOT like the Book of Mormon. :( We were only able to leave him a Restoration pamphlet and commit him to read and pray. Oh well you just do what you can sometimes. Hahaha we were walking around on Friday and some random guy parks his car, hops out and runs up to us! He goes, "Are you Mormons?!" And we said, "Yep!" He gives us his DirecTV sales card and says, "I've found that Mormons are the best salespeople because of your good people skills with people on the doorstep! I've got several Mormons working for me out of Utah. When you get off your mission things, give me a call." Then he hopped into his car and drove away! I think I just got offered a future job?? That evening, we had dinner with the Johnson's and we invited/challenged to think of a specific life question they had and pray about it and search the Book of Mormon for it. I've done that before and its awesome to see how the Book of Mormon and the scriptures have the answers to all our questions! Saturday we were able to go and see Nancy Smith again and that was good. She is just hilarious! :D
Sunday was just weird! We drive into the church parking lot about half an hour before church and we're the only ones there. As we walk to the front door we notice some random guy standing by the door! We start talking to him and we find out that his name is Lester and it was hilarious because he talks REALLY loud and REALLY fast! He just wanted to attend our services so we were like, "Alright! Come on in!" Like ALL of the members knew him because apparently he is sorta like the Steve Reil of Indianola! He goes to all the sporting and community events in town so everybody knows him! :) He went to all 3 hours and took off right after, but he said that he enjoyed it! Fast and testimony meeting was fantastic. A lot of the testimonies seemed to focus on how Heavenly Father truly knows us and can help us with anything. It was just what I needed to hear so it was pretty awesome. After church, we re-taught Jacob the Laws and Ordinances and he has now officially been taught all of the new member lessons! Man I love that kid so much! :D That evening, we had hamburgers and brats with the Childs family! Hahaha they are hilarious! It was just kind of a weird week!
Love,
Elder Logan Flake
